Bernard Tomic is the first Australian through to the second round of Roland Garros qualifying following his come-from-behind victory against 28th seed Moez Echargui.

The 33-year-old defeated the Tunisian 3-6 7-5 6-3 in just over two hours to progress to this stage for the second-straight year.

After dropping the opening set, Tomic turned the tide, hitting 24 winners to 12 in the final two sets to continue his fourth Roland Garros qualifying campaign.

As he targets the main draw in Paris for the first time since 2019, experience will be on the world No.195’s side in his next match. Tomic is up against Italian teenager Federico Cina, who is debuting at Roland Garros.

Chris O’Connell came close to joining Tomic in the second round, saving three match points before falling 7-6(7) 4-6 6-4 to Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta in a two-hour, 53-minute encounter.

Meanwhile, Taylah Preston, Dane Sweeny and Alex Bolt had their main-draw aspirations halted, after exiting in the first round of qualifying.

On Day 2, there will be at least one other Australian joining Tomic in the second round , with Tuesday’s schedule featuring an all-Aussie showdown between Storm Hunter and Tahlia Kokkinis.

Currently at her highest singles ranking since January 2025, Hunter aims to qualify for back-to-back majors, following her dream run at Australian Open 2026. Meanwhile, Kokkinis, who received a qualifying wildcard, will feature at the French tournament for the first time in her career, hoping to make her mark on the big stage.

Seeded Australians Tristan Schoolkate, Priscilla Hon and Maddison Inglis will also be in action on Day 2, hoping to improve Australia’s chances of increasing their main-draw contingent.

Schoolkate, the No.15 seed, battles Belgian Kimmer Coppejans in his opening match. Hon, No.23 seed, is up against Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet, while Inglis, No.31 seed, plays American Robin Montgomery.

James McCabe will also take to the court, opening play on Court 2 against Czechia’s Zdenek Kolar.
