Ellen Perez is through to the Roland Garros women’s doubles quarterfinals after she and partner Demi Schuurs defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia and Liudmila Samsonova on Tuesday morning (AEST).
The No.7 seeds recorded a 6-3 2-6 6-4 victory to set up a showdown with 2025 Roland Garros finalists Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic.
Despite being forced into a deciding set for the first time this campaign, Perez and Schuurs continuously challenged their opponent’s serve in the final set, ultimately applying enough pressure to secure victory.
Perez advances to her second Roland Garros quarterfinal, having previously reached the final eight with American Nicole Melichar-Martinez in 2023. Meanwhile, this is Schuurs’ first trip to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
This win comes amid a strong claycourt swing for the Australian doubles No.2, who is now into her fifth consecutive quarterfinal. Final-eight berths at WTA 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome were bookended by semifinal appearances in Stuttgart and Strasbourg.
Boasting an 8-3 record with Schuurs on the red dirt in 2026, Perez and Schuurs are striving for their first Grand Slam semifinal as a pair.
They will need to get past the second seeds Danilina and Krunic, who have struck form in 2026. While spending the lead-in claycourt tournaments with different partners, the pair have won 22 of their 28 matches together throughout the year, which included winning a WTA 1000 crown in Doha.
Although form is on their opponent’s side, Perez accounted for one of those losses this season. The 30-year-old prevailed against the pair alongside Spaniard Cristina Bucsa at the Brisbane international in January, claiming the win in a match tiebreak.
Their Roland Garros quarterfinal match will be played on Wednesday (local time).
In another good result for Australia, Daniel Jovanovaki and Mustafa Ege Sik stunned No.7 seeds Zangar Nurlanuly and Savva Rybkin in the opening round of the boys’ doubles, defeating the pair 6-4 6-3.
