Australian players will have a new opportunity to earn their place in Australian Open 2027 qualifying, with Tennis Australia introducing a wildcard points race across three Australian Pro Tour events in Brisbane this July.
Building on the successful introduction of two Australian Open main-draw wildcard spots last year, the initiative further expands the opportunities available to players through the Australian Pro Tour.
For the first time, one men’s and one women’s singles qualifying wildcard will be awarded to the Australian players who accumulate the most points across three consecutive weeks of competition in Brisbane:
- July 13: M25 Brisbane and W15 Brisbane
- July 20: M15 Brisbane and W15 Brisbane
- July 27: M15 Brisbane and W15 Brisbane
Tennis Australia Chief Performance Officer Tim Jolley said the new initiative reflects ongoing investment in creating stronger domestic opportunities for Australian athlete development.
“This is a great opportunity for Australian players to compete for an Australian Open qualifying wildcard on home soil,” Jolley said.
“This has come directly from player feedback about creating clearer, more meaningful opportunities within the Australian Pro Tour structure.
“These events reward consistency and give players a real motivation to compete across the series, with an added layer of excitement across the Brisbane swing.”
With Australian Open qualifying wildcards on the line, the new initiative is expected to elevate the level of competition across the Brisbane events while providing a significant boost to the series.
The Australian Pro Tour continues to provide an important platform for Australian and international players, offering ranking points, prize money and regular competition opportunities across all corners of the country.
