Ranking Movers: Kokkinakis launches into Australian top 10

Thanasi Kokkinakis’ Wimbledon semifinal run in doubles saw him enjoy a mammoth rise in the latest release of the rankings.

Men’s doubles

No, this is not a misprint. Thanasi Kokkinakis soared nearly 1200 places following his run to the men’s doubles semifinal at Wimbledon.

The South Australian, along with American Aleksandar Kovacevic, defeated three seeds including Australian Open 2026 champions Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski in their campaign. Kokkinakis is now ranked at world No.121.

Marc Polmans was another improver, cracking the doubles top 30. With compatriot Rinky Hijikata, they defeated No.16 seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner to reach the second round at Wimbledon.

Men’s singles

Alex de Minaur joined an illustrious group this week, becoming just the seventh Australian to reach the ATP top five. It comes after a second-consecutive appearance in the Wimbledon last 16.

James Duckworth and Dane Sweeny also benefited from solid Wimbledon performances. Duckworth moved up five places to world No.74 following his first-round victory over Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Sweeny leaped to a career-high ranking of world No.122 after he qualified at the All-England Club for the first time.

Adam Walton surged back inside the top 80 after reaching the Newport Challenger final and coming extremely close to his second ATP Challenger title of the year.

Women’s singles

Kimberly Birrell is moving closer to her career-high ranking of world No.60 following her Wimbledon campaign. The Queenslander won her first-career match at SW19 against Alina Korneeva, propelling her to world No.65.

Maya Joint earned a significant rise following her maiden Wimbledon victory against 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, rising 10 places to world No.77.

Storm Hunter continued to improve her singles ranking after she reached the second round of qualifying at the grasscourt major. The southpaw fell agonisingly short of the final round, losing in a tight three-set battle to 15th seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Women’s doubles

Ellen Perez is the new Australian No.1 following her quarterfinal run at Wimbledon. Her second trip to the final eight at the All England Club saw her jump back into the top 20.

Talia Gibson entered the top 100 for the first time this week, as she partnered with Kimberly Birrell to reach the second round at SW19. She rose 22 places to world No.93.

Tenika Mcgiffin and Gabriella Da Silva-Fick both enjoyed healthy rises following their semifinals appearance at the Bastad WTA 125 event in Sweden. The pair both climbed 13 places, with Da Silva-Fick securing her maiden top-200 berth.
