Eight Australians have been selected to represent Australia at the 2026 Virtus Open European Tennis Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Australia’s top tennis players with an intellectual disability or autism (IDA) will compete across three international classifications in the IDA pathway – II-1 (intellectual disability), II-2 (down syndrome) and II-3 (autism).

Hunter Thompson will aim to continue his historic streak at the event, hoping to win his fourth-straight II-3 singles gold medal. The 2025 Most Outstanding Player with a Disability award winner at the Newcombe Medal has also won the doubles gold medal for the past two years alongside compatriot Hayden Ballard.

Following his Nottingham Open triumph last week, Archie Graham has once again been named in the squad. Graham, the world No.1 in the II-1 men’s category, has won several medals at the tournament and will hope to add to his haul in Poland.

He is joined in the II-1 category by experienced women’s players Kelly Wren and Andriana Petrakis, as well as Jack Kavenagh, who will make his debut.

Kavenagh paired with Graham to secure a runners-up finish in the men’s doubles in Nottingham. Wren will also look to carry on her success from Nottingham after winning the women’s doubles crown with British player Anna McBride.

Aman Ramadani and Timothy Gould round out the squad, both earning selection in the II-2 category for another year.

The tournament will take place between 3-11 July.
