Tennis Australia and the PGA TOUR today announced a new partnership for the 2028 Presidents Cup, with Tennis Australia bringing its world‑class event delivery expertise to one of golf’s most prestigious international tournaments.
Under the partnership, Tennis Australia will support the operational, experiential and commercial delivery of the 2028 Presidents Cup at the iconic Kingston Heath Golf Club, drawing on its experience running the Australian Open, one of the world’s largest annual sporting events.
The PGA TOUR will continue to guide the overall event strategy for the Presidents Cup and oversee the sporting and competitive elements. The TOUR recently announced Joe Tomek as the 2028 Presidents Cup executive director, with Tomek relocating to Melbourne from Memphis, Tennessee in April.
This will be the fourth time the Presidents Cup has been held in Melbourne, with previous editions – all staged at Royal Melbourne – taking place in 1998, 2011 and 2019.
The event will also mark the first major project delivered under Tennis Australia’s newly established events enterprise, created to extend Tennis Australia’s world‑leading event expertise into commercial partnerships and major sporting and cultural events, with proceeds reinvested back into growing tennis in Australia.
As part of its role, Tennis Australia will support the planning and delivery of key commercial and event experience areas, including ticketing, local and global sponsorships, corporate hospitality, fan experiences, food and beverage, retail and broader event operations.
Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said the partnership reflected both Melbourne’s sporting credentials and Tennis Australia’s growing capability as a global event partner.
“This is a natural extension of what we do best - delivering major global sporting events that connect with fans, attract the world’s best athletes and showcase Australia on the international stage,” Tiley said.
“Our team delivers the Australian Open to millions of fans around the world each year, and we’re excited to bring that same operational excellence, creativity and fan‑first mindset to the 2028 Presidents Cup. Melbourne has an unmatched sporting pedigree, and Kingston Heath is a spectacular stage for an event of this stature.”
Staged biennially, the Presidents Cup features the best men’s golfers from the United States competing against an International Team comprised of players from the rest of the world, excluding Europe. While the Presidents Cup is being held in Melbourne for the fourth time – a record for international appearances – it marks the first with Kingston Heath as host venue, which will showcase another jewel of the Melbourne Sandbelt to a global audience.
“Tennis Australia has set the benchmark for major event delivery and fan engagement in this region, making it the ideal partner to elevate the Presidents Cup and further strengthen its position as one of the world’s premier international team golf competitions,” 2028 Presidents Cup Executive Director Joe Tomek said.
“Bringing together two leading sports organizations - the PGA TOUR and Tennis Australia - reflects a shared commitment to building on the Presidents Cup’s past success in Melbourne and delivering an unforgettable experience for players, fans and partners in 2028.”
The 2028 Presidents Cup will build on Australia’s rich history with the event and further strengthen the country’s reputation as a premier destination for major international sport.
“This partnership reflects the strength of Victoria’s sporting ecosystem and our commitment to delivering world-class events,” Victoria Minister of Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said.
“By leveraging the expertise of Tennis Australia alongside the global reach of the Presidents Cup, we are continuing to raise the bar for major sporting events in Melbourne. It is yet another example of how we bring together leading organisations to create unforgettable experiences on a global stage.”
Further details, including ticketing timelines and event experiences, will be announced in due course.
