Maddison Inglis will take her place in the main draw of the WTA grasscourt tournament at Queen’s after qualifying for the WTA 500 event.
Just as she did in 2025, the West Australian won two rounds of qualifying, and this time around will play in-form No.8 seed Sorana Cirstea in the first round of the main draw.
Having won only one match since her inspiring run to the fourth round of AO 2026, Inglis has turned her fortunes around on London’s lawns.
She recovered from a set down to beat qualifying seventh seed Alycia Parks, then scored another three-set win over China’s Guo Hanyu to progress.
Parks, interestingly, had been hitting regularly with Serena Williams ahead of the American legend’s comeback this week in the doubles draw at Queen’s alongside Victoria Mboko.
Storm Hunter, who fell just short of qualifying for singles, will fly the Aussie flag in the doubles draw, partnering Zhang Shaui.
‘s-Hertogenbosch
Also qualifying for a tour-level grasscourt tournament this week was James McCabe, who takes his place in the main draw of the ATP/WTA 250 event in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The New South Welshman will line up against No.8 seed Zizou Bergs after beating Coleman Wong and Sander Jong in the qualifying rounds.
He joins countryman Alex de Minaur, the second seed looking to repeat his title run of 2024.
De Minaur receives a bye into the second round, where he will face the winner of the match between Jaume Munar and Martin Damm Jr.
‘s-Hertogenbosch has been a successful stop on tour for Aussies over the years, with Pat Rafter winning three consecutive titles from 1998 to 2000, and Lleyton Hewitt triumphing in 2001. Jordan Thompson also reached two singles finals, in 2019 and 2023, while Wally Masur was a finalist in 1993.
In the women’s singles, Daria Kasatkina, Kimberly Birrell and Ajla Tomljanovic ensure Australian representation is strong in 2026.
Kasatkina and Tomljanovic have landed in the top half of the draw – opening against Robin Montgomery and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, respectively – while in the bottom half, Birrell begins her campaign against Poland’s Magda Linette.
Kasatkina is also competing in the women’s doubles event (with Sara Bejlek) while Maya Joint teams with Ekaterina Alexandrova.
In men’s doubles, Aussies Marc Polmans and John Peers are in the field, partnering Nuno Borges and Robert Galloway, respectively.
Stuttgart
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios will play his first singles match in five months when he faces No.8 seed Corentin Moutet in the first round of the ATP 250 grasscourt tournament in Stuttgart.
Kyrgios is a wildcard at the event, where he's one of three Aussies in the main draw along with Rinky Hijikata and James Duckworth.
Hijikata – who reached the quarterfinals of last week’s Birmingham Challenger – and Duckworth both play German wildcards first up.
The Aussie trio find themselves in the top half of the draw, headed by No.1 seed Ben Shelton.
Kyrgios is also playing in doubles, with Alexander Bublik, as is John-Patrick Smith, combining with Fernando Romboli.
