Marc Polmans’ career-best season has featured another crowning moment after the Victorian won his second-straight ATP doubles title.
After claiming his first tournament with Austrian Lucas Miedler in Gstaad last week, the duo clinched silverware once again, this time in Kitzbuhel, Austria.
Polmans and Miedler recorded a 6-2 6-2 victory in 57 minutes against third seeds Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner to secure the title.
Currently 8-0 as a partnership, Polmans and Miedler’s run featured its close battles. The No.2 seeds won two match tiebreaks en route, including a 14-12 triumph in their quarterfinal against Jean-Julien Rojer and Theodore Winegar.
The win in Kitzbuhel has helped propel Polmans to a new career-high of world No.21, a rise of five places.
“I didn’t think when we started playing together we would win our first two ATP [events],” Polmans said. “An amazing start to our partnership. Me and Lucas have just begun, but thankfully there was not another match tiebreak today, because that could have gone either way. I really like playing with Lucas. I’ve known him for many years, since juniors, so I like being his partner.”
The pair will hope to extend their strong form in Washington DC this week.
