Storm Hunter and Marc Polmans are one win away from achieving a 35-year first at Wimbledon after their semifinal victory on Tuesday.
Having previously reached a Grand Slam mixed doubles semifinal together at Australian Open 2021, Hunter and Polmans ensured they rectified that result. The Australian duo needed just 78 minutes to book their place in Thursday’s final, defeating Hungarian Fanny Stollar and Croatian Mate Pavic 7-6(5) 6-3.
They strive to become just the third all-Australian pairing in the Open era to win the mixed doubles crown at the All-England Club. Margaret Court and Ken Fletcher (1968) and Liz Smylie and John Fitzgerald (1991) are the only duos to achieve the feat.
Sam Stosur and Matt Ebden were the last Australians provided with the opportunity to join the list in 2022, but were unable to defeat Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk.
Hunter and Polmans can take confidence from their upset of top seeds Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani, the reigning Roland Garros champions, in the second round.

Both through to their first Wimbledon mixed doubles final, the fairytale continues for Australia’s top-ranked doubles players.
For Polmans, it is another step in chasing his maiden Grand Slam title at professional level. Since winning the Australian Open 2015 boys’ doubles crown alongside compatriot Jake Delaney, Polmans has reached five semifinals across all formats.
Despite not playing in a Grand Slam final until AO 2026, strong form this year could soon translate into a major breakthrough.
In solid form of her own, Hunter will recall on her major finals experience on Thursday against No.2 seeds Jelena Ostapenko and Marcelo Arevalo. Hunter will compete in her third Grand Slam final, adding to the US Open 2022 mixed doubles final and Wimbledon 2023 women’s doubles final.
Since the beginning of 2025, only Italy (3) – fronted by Errani and Vavassori – has produced more mixed doubles titles than Australia (2). Hunter and Polmans, who defeated the Italian pair in the second round have the chance to level that ledger.
