Aleksandar Vukic and Maya Joint have secured convincing victories in the opening round of their hardcourt tournaments on Monday.
Both recorded straight-sets wins against American opponents to advance to the final 16.
Later on Monday (local time), Bernard Tomic also recorded a speedy victory of his own, defeating Mexican qualifier Alex Hernandez 6-1 6-0 in 46 minutes in Los Cabos.
Vukic prevailed against local Zachary Svajda 6-3 6-1 in Washington DC, firing 12 aces to three in the 50-minute encounter. His powerful, accurate serving made up the bulk of his 26 winners for the match, compared to Svajda’s 10.
The Sydneysider was Svajda’s fifth Australian opponent in the space of two months, with Vukic extending the winning streak among his compatriots to three following wins against Svajda by Alex de Minaur and Cruz Hewitt.
Vukic will face fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the quarterfinals; the Italian made his tour-level return on Monday after not competing since the Rome Masters in May.
The 105th-ranked Vukic maintains his unbeaten run this North American hardcourt swing, claiming his eighth consecutive triumph. It follows his first Challenger title in three years in Granby, Canada last week.

Joint, meanwhile, prevailed against wildcard Whitney Osuigwe 6-4 6-1 in Memphis. She reaches the last 16 of a tournament for a second straight week, replicating her efforts from Prague.
The Aussie needed 89 minutes to advance and will await either top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova or Kristina Liutova in the next round.
Tomic returned to the ATP winners’ list at the ATP 250 event in Los Cabos, Mexico, recording his first tour-level hardcourt victory since Australian Open 2021.
The world No.171 smashed 15 winners to three in the encounter against local hope Hernandez and will next play fourth seed Karen Khachanov.
In other matches on Monday (local time), Storm Hunter and Talia Gibson both fell short in their final-16 pursuits in Memphis. Hunter was defeated 7-5 7-5 by fifth seed Camila Osorio, while Gibson bowed out 6-0 6-3 to German veteran Tatjana Maria.
