Talia Gibson continues her breakout season in Strasbourg this week ahead of her maiden main-draw Roland Garros appearance, while Alex de Minaur is a late entrant into the Hamburg Open.
Gibson downed Eva Lys and Zhang Shuai to qualify for the WTA 500 level tournament for the first time, and will face Magdalena Frech in the opening round.
The Pole won the pair’s only meeting at the US Open last year, but Gibson was ranked No.105 at the time.
The 21-year-old Australian arrives in France as the world No.55 after securing her first tour-level claycourt victory in Rome earlier this month.
The milestone win followed her historic Sunshine Swing in March, where she defeated five top-20 opponents across Indian Wells and Miami to rocket up the rankings.

Australian men’s No.1 De Minaur faces a tough draw in the ATP 500-level German tournament, and will battle claycourt ace and world No.27 Francisco Cerundolo in his opener.
The Argentine is in solid form having made the Miami quarterfinals and the round of 16 in Madrid.
‘Demon’ will be hoping to snap a three-match losing streak and rediscover his early season confidence which saw him make the quarterfinals in Monte Carlo and the Australian Open, either side of lifting the Rotterdam trophy.
Should he prevail, the world No.9 will play the winner of the match between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Corentin Moutet.
Daria Kasatkina also came through qualifying in Strasbourg and will face off against world No.20 Liudmila Samsonova.
Kasatkina will be hoping to kick on after earning her first title under the Australian flag at the WTA 125 Catalonia Open earlier this month.
Australia’s No.1 woman Maya Joint fell to Ann Li in the first round in Strasbourg but has teamed up with Ellen Perez in the doubles draw. The pair face Hao Ching Chan and Andreja Klepac.
Meanwhile, Alexei Popyrin will play in the Geneva Open this week after enjoying statement wins over Matteo Berrettini and Jakub Mensik in Rome.
The 26-year-old faces a tough matchup against top seed Taylor Fritz in the second round if he beats world No.165 Frenchman Clement Tabur in his opener.
Two Aussies will also feature in the Swiss city’s doubles draw. Marc Polmans teams up with Monegasque Romain Arneodo to face Maximo Gonzalez and Santiago Gonzalez, while John Peers partners American Robert Galloway against Swiss duo Jakub Paul and Dominic Stricker.
A finalist in 2018, Ajla Tomljanovic returns to the Morocco Open this week and will battle Burundi’s Sada Nahimana in the first round.
On the Challenger circuit, in-form Philip Sekulic faces a qualifier in Bengaluru, India, fresh off a final appearance in the city last week.
Omar Jasika plays local hopeful Sidharth Rawat, while Joshua Charlton partners Charles Barry in the doubles.
In Cervia, Italy, Li Tu is up against a qualifier, and will also play doubles with Belgium’s Buvaysar Gadamauri.
Ethan Cook partners American Alafia Ayeni in the Istanbul Challenger, with the pair drawn to play Sergio Martos Gornes and Szymon Walklow.
