December Showdown

Each December the country’s best players assemble at Melbourne Park for the December Showdown. In 16 days, more than 1500 matches will be played to find out who is the best player across each age group and spectator entry is free!

The Australian Open Play-off is the centre-piece of the December Showdown. The play-off sees players from around Australia battle it out for a golden ticket into the Australian Open.

State Qualifier and State/Territory Positions

State Qualifiers have been decided at closed state qualifying events:

These closed state qualifying events do not offer AR points or doubles or consolation events.  Victoria/Tasmania, New South Wales/ACT and Queensland/NT will offer draw sizes of up to 64 players, while South Australia and Western Australia offered draw sizes of up to 32 players into their state qualifying events.  Athletes will only be permitted to compete in their state of residency.

Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and Northern Territory will also have allocated wildcards into the 12/u & 14/u Australian Championships,  to be awarded by the relevant National Academy head coach.

Girls Singles Winner will receive a Main Draw Singles wildcard into the Australian Open 2018

Boys Singles Winner receives a Qualifying Singles Wildcard into the Australian Open 2018 as well as a spot into the Australian Open Wildcard Playoff to be held in Melbourne from December 11 to 17.

Invitations to compete in the 12/u Australian Teams Championships and 14/u Australian Teams Championships will be coordinated by each State / Territory Member Association.  International teams will also be invited to compete in this event.
