More than 600 competitors competed across four divisions – Under 10, 12, 14 and 16, highlighting the depth of junior talent from Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand.
Champions were crowned on Saturday at the Queensland Tennis Centre following 40 finals
Brisbane’s Leo Omura Vana claimed the Under 16 boys title after producing an impressive comeback against Auckland’s Declan Tanhe. Trailing in the opening set, Vana fought back to secure a hard-earned 7-5, 6-4 victory in a two-hour final.
In the Under 16 girls event, New Zealand’s Aviva Kurtovic overcame an injury scare during the second set to defeat Misty Woodhouse 6-1, 7-5 after receiving on-court treatment.
New South Wales players also enjoyed success. Emily Liang rallied from a set down to win the Under 14 girls title, while Yuma Takechi completed a strong tournament by capturing both the Under 14 singles and doubles titles.
Beatrix Fleming added the Under 12 girls championship to the NSW title tally after overcoming Queensland’s Sophie Newton, while Mountain Creek’s Rafe Croll claimed the Under 12 boys title and another Queensland victory with a convincing straight-sets win over Nicolas Leite.
The championships once again highlighted the bright future of Australian tennis, with the next generation of players delivering exciting performances throughout the week.
