The Northern Skies Series features three Tier 1 Open Singles tournaments across North and Far North Queensland, providing players with the opportunity to earn valuable Queensland Money Race points while competing against some of the state's strongest regional talent.
The series has been designed to strengthen player engagement and increase participation across all levels of the game, with more than 400 competitors expected to take part across the three events. Each tournament will host up to 150 players, featuring open men's and women's competitions alongside junior age-group events.
In addition to tournament titles, players will be chasing consistency across the circuit, with performances throughout the series contributing to the overall King and Queen of the Northern Skies standings. The prestigious honours carry significant weight in the Queensland Money Race and recognise the top-performing players across the entire tournament swing.
Up to $8,000 is on offer at each Open event, with a $13,000 Bonus Series Race prize pool also up for grabs, along with the King and Queen of the North titles. Together, the three tournaments offer a total of $37,000 in prize money, making the Northern Skies Series one of the richest regional tennis circuits in Queensland.
The tournament swing will travel across two key regional tennis destinations – Cairns and Townsville – bringing high-quality competition to local courts while providing invaluable opportunities for players to compete in front of home crowds.
Beyond the on-court action, the series is expected to create a vibrant atmosphere for local communities, showcasing emerging talent and providing entertainment for tennis fans and families throughout the region.
The series has also received a boost through $15,000 in support from the Ash Barty Foundation, further strengthening opportunities for regional players.
The action begins this weekend with the Fowler's Group FNQ Open Age Championships at Cairns International Tennis Centre from 3 to 5 July. The opening tournament has attracted 145 entries, including 24 players in the Open Men's draw and 11 in the Open Women's draw.
Regional North player Ethan Rand headlines the men's field as the top seed, ahead of second seed Dale Nixon. In the women's draw, Stephanie Guse Abbott enters as the No. 1 seed, while Regional North player Lilly Shepherd is seeded second.
Following Cairns, the Northern Skies Series heads to Tennis Townsville for the NQ Open Age Championships from 17 to 19 July before concluding at Western Suburbs Tennis Club for the Townsville Open Age Championships from 7 to 9 August.
With strong fields, substantial prize money and valuable Queensland Money Race points on offer, the 2026 Northern Skies Series promises to once again deliver some of the best regional tennis action in the state.
