Tennis Queensland is excited to launch a new initiative recognising and celebrating the incredible volunteers who help make tennis possible in communities across the state.
Each month, a volunteer will be recognised for their dedication and contribution to the sport. The initiative provides an opportunity not only to celebrate deserving individuals, but also to share and amplify the stories of the people helping tennis grow and thrive throughout Queensland.
For the inaugural Volunteer of the Month recognition, Tennis Queensland is proud to celebrate Bev Gwynne from the Mossman Tennis Club.
For more than five decades, Bev has been at the heart of tennis in the Mossman community, generously dedicating her time, passion and expertise to the sport. As Secretary of the Mossman Tennis Club, she has become an integral part of the club’s success and a driving force behind its continued growth.
Over the past 12 months, Bev has continued to make a significant impact by leading initiatives that have strengthened opportunities for players of all ages. She played an important role in engaging with the Australian Government to secure funding for the redevelopment of the Mossman Tennis Club clubhouse, helping to support the club’s future for generations to come.
Bev was also instrumental in delivering one of Queensland’s largest Red Ball Gala events, which welcomed more than 100 participants. The event demonstrated strong community engagement and provided young players with an enjoyable and welcoming introduction to tennis.
Her contribution extends far beyond her role as Secretary. Throughout more than 50 years of volunteering, Bev has helped organise grants, coordinate competitions and come-and-try days, deliver Red Ball and Orange Ball programs, and promote tennis throughout the Mossman community.
Volunteers like Bev are the backbone of community tennis. Their dedication creates opportunities for people to play, connect and belong, while helping clubs remain welcoming and vibrant places within their communities.
