Blind and Low Vision
Where tailored coaching and a passionate community help every player rise, improve and be part of something bigger.
Supporting our players every step of the way
Embracing all abilities is part of our strategic vision. From a local learning hub to structured competitions and training that support athletes with global ambitions – we’re here to empower every player to reach their full potential.
Be part of the Design Eyewear BLV League
Our Blind and Low Vision (BLV) League enables players to realise their tennis dreams. More than just a competition, the league is a pathway for individuals to be part of the vibrant tennis community.
Tennis SA's blind and low vision hub
Located at Somerton Park Tennis Club, our blind and low vision hub provides tailored coaching programs for both kids and adults. Led by Tennis Australia National Coach Nicholas Bradley, these sessions offer a relaxed, supportive environment where everyone can learn and enjoy the game.
Learning tennis is so much more than developing a new skill – it helps you build confidence, stay active and connect with a welcoming, inclusive community.
Relying on sound and touch, sessions are run on a smaller court with tactile lines and a lower net. The audible balls rattle to help players track its movement. These modifications – combined with clear verbal cues before every serve – keep the game fun while embracing different abilities.
Whether you're a social player or looking to sharpen your competitive play skills, we welcome everyone on court.
Training program:
Open training - Tuesdays, 6:15pm - 7:15pm
Your pathway to national and international stages
Interested in playing competitively? You can start your competitive play journey by joining the Design Eyewear BLV League. It’s a team‑based competition where you can enjoy competitive match play while building strong connections with your teammates and your community.
For those ready to take on the next challenge, the State Squad offers specialised training led by a Tennis Australia coach. Focusing on skill and tactical development, it empowers athletes to excel in the SA BLV Championship and compete with confidence at top‑tier events nationally and internationally.
Awards and recognition
In 2025, at the Blind and Low Vision National Championships, South Australia were awarded the Maurice Gleason Cup awarded to the top-performing state or territory across all singles events.
The SA BLV Program was also awarded the Inaugural Newcombe Award for Most Outstanding Inclusion Initiative in 2024.
These awards are a testament to the passion and dedication of our coaches, volunteers and players.
