Tournament planner workshops
Planning a tournament and getting it sanctioned involve complex processes with many rules, requirements, and moving parts to manage. That’s why we offer tournament planner workshops to help clubs, tennis associations and Tournament Directors feel confident and fully prepared before applying for event sanctioning.
How to register:
To find out when we’re running this workshop next and to register for the session, contact Tennis SA Head of Competitive Play, Dylan Hicks.

Junior tournament requirements
Junior Series tournaments are the starting point for players aged 10–18 who want to compete against others their own age.
These events are part of the Australian Junior Tour, which includes all Tennis Australia‑endorsed junior tournaments. The tour gives young players a clear pathway to develop their skills and improve their Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).
UTR is used in every junior event to help determine who gets in, seeding, and draws. As an organiser, you’ll use UTR rating bands to group players into the right divisions.
The Australian Junior Tour includes everything from beginner Coloured Ball events to higher-level tournaments like Junior Community, Junior Development Series, J125, J250, J500, and J1000 events.
Two new junior tours were introduced in 2024:
- De Minaur Tour for 12U and 14U
- 16U Australian Junior Tour
Each year ends with state finals in September, and the De Minaur Tour Finals for 12U and 14U follow in November.

Open tournament requirements
Open Series tournaments create a pathway for players emerging juniors and adults (aged 13 and above) to gain valuable competitive experience and earn prize money.
Events range from community level to higher-tier prize money tournaments, including:
- Open Community Series (OC)
- Open Series: O3k, O5k, O7.5k, O10k
- Open Signature Series: 20k and 25k
The Australian Progress Series links around 20 Open Signature Series events to the Australian Pro Tour, giving players a clear qualification pathway towards the Progress Series Year‑End Finals.
These tournaments offer important match play leading into the Pro Tour, as well as:
- Higher prize money
- Opportunities to earn a feed‑up wildcard into the Australian Pro Tour
The Australian Pro Tour is where players can earn ranking points and prize money that support their careers as professional athletes.

Policies and procedures
Our competition policies and guidelines set out what’s expected from everyone involved in a tournament — including organisers, officials, players, parents and supporters. They outline the standards and behaviours that ensure every event is safe, fair and enjoyable.
