Tennis SA is deeply saddened to advise of the passing of Ian Bidmeade, who passed away in late December following a long and debilitating illness.

Ian’s involvement in tennis began early in his life and saw him contribute to the sport in many capacities, including as a successful player, dedicated volunteer, trusted adviser, and administrator. He represented South Australia in the Linton Cup and enjoyed regular success in local tournaments, including victories at the City of Adelaide tournament.

In the 1990s, Ian conducted a review of the Pennant Competition in South Australia which led to several positive changes. During this time, he joined the Tennis South Australia Board and later served as a representative on the Tennis Australia Board, progressing to become an Executive at Tennis Australia as Director of Tennis in the early 2000s.

Beyond tennis, Ian was qualified in law and was highly regarded for his expertise in disability and child protection legislation. Tennis SA extends its sincere condolences to Ian’s family, friends, and colleagues. He will be remembered for his dedication, integrity, and lasting contribution to the sport.
