Day 3 delivered an action-packed showcase of talent at the City of Playford Tennis International, with Aussie stars lighting up the courts and international contenders stepping up as the competition intensifies.
In the men’s singles, local South Aussie favourite Alex Bolt cruised through in straight sets. Also representing Australia, top seed James Duckworth and Jason Kubler celebrated victories, alongside Lucky Loser Pavle Marinkov (AUS) who battled past fellow Aussie Blake Ellis in a three-set thriller winning 2-6 6-3 6-4. Defending champion Rinky Hijikata (AUS) moved safely into the next round, joined by fellow Australians, wild card Tai Sach, Marc Polmans and Dane Sweeny. Rounding out the day’s winners were Karan Singh (IND) and Japan’s Hikaru Shiraishi.
In the men’s doubles, Japan’s Shinji Hazawa and Taisei Ichikawa claimed a straight-sets victory over their Australian opponents.
Women’s singles action saw international players shine, with Sijia Wei (CHN), Ikumi Yamazaki (JPN), Fangran Tian (CHN) and Katarina Zavatska (UKR) all booking their spots in the next round. Rising Australian talent Tahlia Kokkinis impressed with a commanding straight-sets win.
In the women’s doubles, Aussies Talia Gibson and Maddison Inglis stormed through their match in just 45 minutes, posting a dominant 6-0 6-0 victory. They were joined in the next round by fellow Australian pairs Rianna Alame / Ava-Monet Sycamore and Alana Subasic / Belle Thompson. Arina Bulatova and BoYong Jeong (KOR) defeated the all-Aussie duo Jasmine Adams and Adelaide’s own Diana Badalyan. Korean pairing Dayeon Back / Eunhye Lee, Ya Yi Ying (TPE) with Chengyiyi Yuan (CHN), and the team of Sijia Wei / Ikumi Yamazaki also moved through to the next round.
