The much-anticipated State Foundation Cup is set to return to Berri Tennis Club from 7-10 October 2025, with 180 junior players from across the regions gathering for four days of elite team and individual competition.

The event marks a homecoming for Berri, which will again host the Foundation Cup for its twelfth edition. It represents the pinnacle event for junior tennis in regional South Australia, with teams drawn from each of the six regional areas: Hills Fleurieu; River Murray; Eyre Peninsula; Upper Northern & Yorke; Lower Northern; and South East.

This year’s State Foundation Cup will see an expanded field, with 180 players set to compete in what will be the largest event in recent years, providing even more regional juniors with the chance to showcase their talent.

Boys and girls across the 10, 12, 14, and 16/u age groups will take to the courts, competing in both regional team formats and individual events.

For players in the 12, 14, and 16/u brackets, the event also serves as a vital stepping stone, with standout athletes to be selected for South Australian State Representative teams that will compete nationally in December.

To ensure fairness and development across the board, players are required to reside in their nominated region and qualify through local trials, with each region appointing coordinators and coaches to oversee squad training and selection.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome the State Foundation Cup back to Berri in 2025. It’s such a privilege for our club and the wider region to host some of the best junior talent from across South Australia, and we can’t wait to see them in action this October,” said Berri Tennis Club President, Phil Cresp.

“Beyond the matches themselves, this event brings an incredible buzz to our community – it’s a celebration of sport, friendship, and regional pride that everyone here looks forward to each year” concluded Cresp.

“The State Foundation Cup is one of the most important events on our regional calendar, and it means a great deal to the communities involved,” said Tennis SA Competitive Play Lead, Stephen Dawson.

“It provides an opportunity for our outstanding regional players to come together, test themselves in a high-level environment, and take the next step in their tennis pathway. The pride these players bring from their regions is something special, and the connections they build here go far beyond the court” Dawson stated.
