Tennis SA is deeply saddened to advise of the passing of John Potter, a passionate and committed contributor to tennis in South Australia.
John served Tennis South Australia in a number of important leadership and advisory roles across the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was appointed as a TSA Board Director in 1996–97 and then supported the organisation as a Management Consultant from 1997–1999, providing guidance to the CEO during a pivotal period of growth. During this time he chaired the TSA Participation Committee (1997–99), demonstrating a long-held commitment to increasing access and opportunities for players across the state.
In 1999 John was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Tennis SA, a position he held until 2004. Under his stewardship Tennis SA benefitted from experienced governance and a focus on participation and event delivery. He also played a key advisory role in the lead-up to the 1997 Davis Cup quarter-final between Australia and Germany, serving on the working group and advisory board for that tie.
John’s leadership, strategic insight and service to the sport made a lasting contribution to tennis in South Australia. Tennis SA extends its sincere condolences to John’s family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered for his dedication to the game and to the people who make our tennis community thrive.
