The City of Playford Tennis International will return to Playford Tennis Centre for its sixth edition from Sunday 20 to Sunday 27 October 2024. Hosted by Tennis SA and Tennis Australia with the City of Playford and TennisGear, the combined men’s ATP Challenger and women’s ITF World Tennis Tour Australian Pro Tour event offers a total prize pool of more than AUD $200,000 along with valuable world ranking points.

Previous competitors include 2022 Wimbledon champion and 2023 Australian Open finalist Elena Rybakina, 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

Last year home grown players Astra Sharma (WA) and James Duckworth (NSW) took out the titles in a strong field which included South Australia’s own Thanasi Kokkinakis and 2022 champion Kimberly Birrell (QLD).

“We are thrilled to have the Australian Pro Tour return to the Playford Tennis Centre in 2024 for the sixth time,” Tennis Australia’s Head of Competitive Play & Professional Events Francis Soyer said.

“The City of Playford Tennis International has fast become a favourite amongst the players as a perfect lead in to the Summer of Tennis.

“We thank the City of Playford for their continued support, a tournament of this calibre would simply not be possible without it.”

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty has welcomed the tournament’s return and noted the success of previous years as a sign of bigger things to come.

“After six years, the City of Playford Tennis International has matured into a world-class tournament. The Playford Tennis Centre is one of the few venues in Australia with the capacity to host both men’s and women’s events simultaneously and has become a popular playing destination,” said Mayor Glenn Docherty.

“As part of the ATP Challenger and ITF World Tennis Tours, it serves as a perfect lead-in for Australia’s summer of tennis and brings with it an impressive lineup of world-ranked players and household names.”

“The Playford community has watched with excitement as Australian athletes have taken home gold in the Olympics. I’d encourage all of you to bring that same atmosphere to the Playford Tennis Centre, where you can watch a world-class event for free in your own backyard.”

Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey added: “We are thrilled to announce that the City of Playford Tennis International will return once again in 2024.”

“A sincere thank you goes to the City of Playford for their unwavering support of this tournament. It is an event we always look forward to, and this year we are planning more activations and unique ways to engage the community and welcome patrons to the event for some amazing tennis.”

The City of Playford Tennis International is part of the Australian Pro Tour, a series of professional tennis events held throughout the year to bridge upcoming players with the ATP/WTA Tour, providing an opportunity to earn significant world ranking points.

The field for the City of Playford Tennis International will be announced in October.
