Tennis SA is thrilled to announce the induction of Alicia Molik, the esteemed Tournament Director of the Adelaide International, into the prestigious South Australian Sport Hall of Fame. This recognition stands as a testament to Molik’s profound impact on the world of tennis, particularly through her invaluable contributions as the helm of the 2024 Adelaide International.

Molik’s journey into the realm of tennis began at her local Seaside Tennis Club, where her passion for the sport ignited at the age of six. What commenced as a modest beginning soon flourished into a remarkable career marked by dedication and unwavering commitment. From those early days, Molik embarked on a journey that took her to the pinnacle of professional tennis.

The world bore witness to Molik’s extraordinary talent as she graced the courts of multiple Grand Slam tournaments, starting with her debut at the 1999 French Open. Her remarkable ascent saw her rise to the eighth rank on the Women’s Tennis Association tour in 2005, solidifying her status as one of the sport’s most formidable players.

Throughout her illustrious singles career, Molik clinched an impressive array of titles, securing five WTA and 8 ITF championships. Her prowess extended to the doubles arena, where she captured seven WTA and two ITF titles, reaching a career-high ranking of sixth in June 2005.

However, Molik’s contributions to tennis extend far beyond her prowess as a player. As a leader, she steered Australia to two Billie Jean King Cup finals in 2019 and 2022, demonstrating her ability to inspire and unite teams towards a common goal. Her leadership qualities, coupled with her deep understanding of the sport, have been instrumental in shaping the future of Australian tennis.

As Tournament Director of the Adelaide International, Molik has brought her wealth of experience and passion to the fore, elevating the tournament to new heights. Her vision and dedication have ensured that the Adelaide International continues to be synonymous with world class tennis, attracting top-tier talent and captivating audiences worldwide.

Tennis SA is immensely proud of Alicia Molik and her remarkable achievements both on and off the court.

“Her induction into the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame serves as a fitting tribute to her enduring legacy and profound impact to the sport,” Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey says.
