Seven finalists are set to lead South Australia at the upcoming 2022 Newcombe Medal, Australian Tennis Awards following the announcement of finalists today.

Returning to the Palladium at Crown on Monday 12 December, the awards ceremony will recognise the outstanding contribution of the tennis community around Australia.

South Australia is set to be represented in seven out of a possible 13 categories.

David Grainger from Henley South Tennis Club has been announced as a finalist for the Coaching Excellence Club award, and after winning the Coaching Excellence Club award in 2021, Domenic Marafiote is this year a finalist for the Coaching Excellence Development award.

Robyn Tucker will be a finalist for the Excellence in Officiating award for the second time, while Ian Delbridge is in the running for the Most Outstanding 30+ Tennis Senior.

Edward Winter is a finalist for the Junior Athlete of the Year – Male category for the second year running. Winter won his first ITF singles title in Traralgon last month with a 6-4 6-2 win over Tristan Schoolkate (WA).

Torrens Valley Christian School will be vying for the Most Outstanding School award and Port Lincoln’s Julie Polkinghorne is a finalist for the Volunteer Achievement Award.

“We are so excited to congratulate our seven South Australian finalists,” Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey said.

“These finalists are wonderful ambassadors for our sport in South Australia. Their commitment and enthusiasm is truly commendable, and their selection as finalists is thoroughly well deserved.

“We wish our finalists the very best of luck and we will be proudly cheering them on.”
