8 March 2022 | Tennis SA

8 March marks International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate and recognise the achievements of women and girls in every aspect. Tennis SA values being a woman-led organisation with an inclusive work culture where women’s careers thrive and their achievements are celebrated.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I am proud to be the CEO of Tennis SA and would like to acknowledge the amazing women in our sport that help to make it great,” Tennis SA CEO Debbie Sterrey said.

“A key part of our 2021-2024 strategy is to open up more opportunities for women and girls to thrive in tennis across all of the different pathways offered.

“On behalf of the staff at Tennis SA, we thank you for your incredible contribution,” Sterrey added.

Whilst we celebrate and recognise the diversity of women and girls every day, #IWD22 is an opportunity to bring additional recognition to the incredible role women play in encouraging all efforts towards creating equality, diversity and inclusion across our workplace and our sport.

Half of our board members are women and today, they share their favourite aspect of being a woman in sport.

“My favourite part of being a woman in tennis is being part of a team. An all-female team who are there for you, pulling together, building teamwork, confidence and leadership. Sport is one of the few places that women can bond and grow together in this way.” – Kerry Morrow, Tennis SA Board Member

“Midweek ladies tennis is one of life’s true pleasures. Competitive yet inclusive, sometimes hilarious and usually loud! Women of all ages enjoying being together and active.” – Julie Day, Tennis SA Board Member

“Over the years that I have been involved with Tennis SA, the most measurable and proudest achievement has been to see the gender balance of tennis participation shift into our board table.” – Natalie Morley, Tennis SA Board Member

“Some families have traditions and in ours, it is a love of tennis. Playing, administrating and being a spectator of tennis has surpassed generations in my family. I am proud to continue this and encourage the next generation to do the same.” – Joanna Lydeamore, Tennis SA Board Member
