The first UTR Pro Tennis Tour tournament at West Lakes has come to an end this afternoon with top seeds Li Tu (SA) and Alexandra Bozovic (NSW) claiming the titles.

Tu defeated Omar Jasika (Vic) 5-7 6-0 6-2 to win the men’s tournament, his fourth UTR Pro Tennis Tour title in his home state.

Jasika took the first three games of the match before Tu won five games straight to lead 5-3, with Jasika fighting back to take the first set 7-5 in just over an hour. In front of a home crowd, Tu settled to take the second and third sets comfortably, 6-0 6-2.

“It was a really tough match, I know that Omar has been playing well all week and has been competing really hard,” Tu said following the match.

“He played at an unreal level in the first set. I didn’t do too much wrong, but he really outplayed me in the big moments.

“In the second and third, I just backed myself in, tried to find a way and got lucky in a few crucial moments.

“It’s unreal to be playing at home. I get to see family and friends while I am here, it’s been great having these events here in Adelaide.”

In the women’s, Bozovic defeated Belinda Woolcock (Vic) 6-2 6-3 to take the win.

The opening four games of the match were tight before Bozovic claimed the first set in 38 minutes. Woolcock rallied towards the end of the second set before Bozovic held on to take the match 6-2 6-3.

“Today’s match was pretty tough coming up against Belinda. She’s one of the top seeds and she was in really good form coming in to this match, I had to be on from the get go,” Bozovic said.

“This tournament was amazing. The conditions this week weren’t so great, with the wind, rain and sun, but in the end it worked out well.”

Tu and Bozovic will lead the fields once again for the second UTR Pro Tennis Tour tournament commencing at 9.00 am on Monday.

Bozovic will be joined in the women’s field by South Australian Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA).

Kempenaers-Pocz, 16, received a wildcard into Australian Open qualifying earlier this year and made her Australian Open doubles debut alongside world No.3 Simona Halep (ROU) in February.

The UTR Pro Tennis Tour events come following the successful rollout of the tour in 2020. The format features a singles only competition for men and women based on Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR), and features a player group round robin followed by a World Cup-style playoff format.

What is a UTR?

Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is an international tennis rating system that connects millions of tennis players around the world to help them find better matches locally. UTR reflects a player’s current skill level based on head-to-head match scores, and rates all players across age, gender and nationality on the same 16-point scale. Every player can have a UTR – from the pros to juniors to social tennis players.
