South Australia’s largest inter-club competition, the Winter Pennant invites all levels of players from metro and inner regional based tennis associations.
About Winter Pennant
As South Australia’s longest‑running competition, Winter Pennant continues to thrive, with team participation increasing consistently in recent years.
Providing match-play opportunities for players of all levels is the key to a thriving tennis community. Winter Pennant plays an important part in the state’s Performance Pathway, helping local talents pave their way toward higher-level tennis.
Selection criteria
- A tennis clubs affiliated with Tennis SA can nominate a team.
- The nominated players must have completed their CPP (Competitive Player Profile) and activated their UTR (Universal Tennis Rating).
- Team nominations need to be submitted online via League Manager. The nomination fee is $115 (inc GST) per team. Relevant clubs will receive an invoice once the nominations have been finalised.

Divisions
- Open Men’s Divisions
- Open Women’s Divisions
- Blue Zone Men’s Divisions
- Blue Zone Women’s Divisions
- Gold Zone Men’s Divisions
- Gold Zone Women’s Divisions
- Men’s Open Doubles Divisions
- Women’s Open Doubles Divisions
- Mixed Doubles Divisions
Match formats
Singles competition
- Each team consists of up to eight players. No player is permitted to play more than one singles match and one doubles match.
- Both the singles and doubles matches are played as the best of two tiebreak sets, with a tiebreak played at six games all (first to seven points, win by two). If a third set is required, it will be decided by a match tiebreak played to 10 points, with a two‑point advantage required.
Doubles competition
- Each team consists of up to eight players.
- Men’s rubbers are played as two sets, with a tiebreak at five games all (first to seven points, win by two), for a total of 12 sets across the match.
- Women's rubbers are played as one set, with a tiebreak at eight games all (first to seven points, win by two), for a total of six sets across the match.
Mixed competition
- Each team consists of up to eight players.
- The rubbers are played as one set, with a tiebreak at eight games all (first to seven points, win by two), for a total of six sets across the match.

Winter Pennant Player of the Year Awards
The Winter Pennant Player of the Year Awards recognise excellence across all of the men’s and women’s divisions, including doubles. It is awarded to the men and women with the most rubbers won during the minor round, with ties decided by sets and games won. To be eligible, players must compete in at least two‑thirds of matches.
