Getting Classified
To compete in official wheelchair tennis tournaments — especially at national or international level — players must be formally classified based on how their mobility impairment affects movement and play. Classification ensures fair competition across divisions such as Open (lower limb impairment) and Quad (impairment in multiple limbs). Players are classified on a skills basis in the following categories: Open – Elite level players A, B, C, D – Graded players. There is a separate division for quad players.
- Social players can often participate in adapted community events without formal classification.
