Information for Clubs & Coaches
Tennis NSW supports clubs and coaches to deliver inclusive Wheelchair tennis experiences by providing practical information, resources and connections.
Integrating BLV Tennis into your Club Programs
Clubs can successfully integrate Wheelchair Tennis into their existing programs without major facility changes. With thoughtful scheduling and inclusive planning, wheelchair tennis becomes part of the broader club environment – strengthening community connection and long-term sustainability rather than operating as a separate program.
- Schedule regular sessions: Incorporate wheelchair tennis into junior, social, or all abilities programs. A consistent weekly or fortnightly 30–60 minute session can build momentum and player confidence.
- Shared court access: Wheelchair tennis uses standard courts and equipment, so sessions can run alongside mainstream programs or during off-peak times without requiring dedicated facilities.
- Inclusive coaching groups: Where appropriate, wheelchair players can be included in group lessons using the two-bounce rule, promoting integration and shared learning experiences.
- Accessible environments: Ensure pathways to courts, amenities and viewing areas are wheelchair accessible, and allow adequate space around courts for safe movement.
- Equipment support: Provide access to sports wheelchairs through loan programs or partnerships to reduce barriers for new participants.
- Buddy or peer support: Pair new wheelchair participants with experienced players, volunteers or club members to create a welcoming and supportive introduction to the club.
- Link to pathways: Connect club programs to local, state and national wheelchair tennis tournaments, development camps and classification opportunities to support player progression.
