FAQs
How do I apply to run a sanctioned Australian Junior Tour (AJT) and Open Prizemoney (OP) tournament?
- You need to be a Tennis NSW affiliated member entity with the appropriate venue capacity to run tournaments in NSW.
- You will then be able to express an interest in running a sanctioned tournament via the link here.
- The Tennis NSW team will then use your information to further assess your eligibility and in finding the right time in the calendar – At times, our team may make contact to discuss your expression in more detail.
- Once confirmed you will be invited to formally apply.
What considerations are made when awarding tournaments?
- Previous year’s calendar and tournaments held.
- Previous experience in running a tournament.
- The level and types applied for (i.e. Junior, Open, combined etc.).
- The number and types of EOI’s we receive from other submissions.
- The capacity for the tournament host to run a successful event, this could include:
- Number of courts at your venue.
- The ability for you to offer secondary venues (these venues must also be affiliated with Tennis NSW).
- Whether you are invested in recruiting local officials or seeking external officials.
- Whether you have a Tournament Director or not.
- Feedback received from the playing group, Tournament Directors, Officials etc.
- Commitment to a safe environment with the appropriate child safety measures and first aid personnel and protocols in place (i.e. First Aid attendant, Defibrillator, Working With Children Checks and MPIO processes etc.). To find out more about safety measures and how you can apply them to your club or venue, please see the below links.
- The most important factor is that the number of tournaments applied for fit within the calendar – This means that although you may apply for 4 or 5 tournaments, based on other applications and the availability within the calendar, you may receive either more or less tournaments. We will discuss and communicate with you prior to finalising.
At what times of the year can Australian Junior Tour and Open Prizemoney tournaments be held?
- The school holiday periods are the times of the year when AJT and OP tournaments can be run.
- In NSW tournaments are scheduled to accommodate Metro venues on one whole week and regional venues on another whole week – This is to give venues in those areas the best chance possible to attract healthy participation numbers both in Sydney and in Regional NSW.
What are the key timelines we should be aware of?
- EOI is open from mid-July until approximately mid-late August.
- The Tennis NSW Operations and Pathways team (TOPS) will then use the information from EOI’s to build the 2026 calendar.
- If you are successful in your EOI, you will be contacted by a member of the TOPS team to formally apply for your tournament/s.
- The draft 2026 calendar will then undertake an internal approval process prior to the official release of the 2026 Tennis Australia Competitive Play calendar in approximately October/November 2025.
We are affiliated with Tennis NSW and are keen to run tournaments, but we don’t have any local Tournament Directors or Officials, what can we do?
- You can firstly contact your local Tennis Development Officer who will be able to set up a meeting with the appropriate person to discuss further.
- You can find out more information regarding officials here.
Outside of Australian Junior Tour and Open Prizemoney tournaments, what other tournaments could we be eligible to host?
- Junior Development Series for venues in Metropolitan Sydney and Regional Matchplay events in Regional NSW.
- Open and Junior Community level tournaments – These can be run in school term.
- Graded events and Coloured Ball tournaments.
- UTR match play and social tournaments.
- Offer local leagues, competitions, and team-based tennis.
We are interested in running a league, rather than a tournament. Is it possible to endorse our league?
- Tennis NSW, in conjunction with Tennis Australia will be trialing an endorsement process for leagues in NSW in 2025/26.
- More information to come soon however in the meantime please visit the Tennis Australia webpage here for more information.
Who can I speak to in the meantime?
- You are encouraged to speak to your local Tennis Development Officer in the first instance. The reasons for this include:
- They can check your Tennis NSW membership status and provide general guidance on your competitive play needs and plans.
- They can discuss with you about your court and venue capacity and undertake the appropriate assessments, such as HIIT assessments, to further inform your planning.
- They can connect you with the appropriate competitive play team members for further discussions relating to tournaments, competitions, and competitive play in general.
