Destanee Aiava (VIC) and Taro Daniel (JPN) are the 2023 NSW Open champions after taking out the singles titles at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre yesterday.

Third seed, Taro Daniel, defeated Marc Polmans (VIC) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, to claim his first NSW Open title.

“It has been awhile for me since I have won a tournament and this week has been a really great confidence boost for me. Because of this win, I’m now going to be able to play in the main draw of the Australian Open in January and hopefully return to Sydney for the United Cup,” Daniel said.

On the women’s side, sixth seed Destanee Aiava (VIC) overcame the second seed, Astra Sharma (WA) 6-3, 6-4, in just over an hour. Proving to be unstoppable, Aiava also claimed the 2023 NSW Open women’s doubles title with partner Madison Inglis (WA) earlier in the week.

“I always love coming here, Sydney is a second home to me and I am so happy to win my first Women’s 60 title here. I hope to return next year,” Aiava said.

Currently ranked No.218, Aiava is now projected to return to the world’s top 200 and rise to her highest ranking in four years.
