Local Tennis Pride Events

With support from Tennis Australia, Tennis NSW venues have been delivering Pride Events since 2023 through AO Pride Nights and the Serving Pride initiative. These events aim to educate and support tennis clubs on how to be inclusive of their local LGBTQ+ communities by providing welcoming, affirming environments and advocating zero tolerance towards homophobia, biphobia and transphobia. Venues participating in these initiatives receive LGBTQ inclusion training through Pride Cup.

Pride Nights

AO Pride Nights is a twilight events during the Australian Open period featuring social tennis, pop tennis, food and community engagement to celebrate diversity and inclusion in tennis. To get involved, contact [email protected].

Serving Pride

Ahead of Pride Month taking place in June, Tennis Australia is giving clubs around the country the opportunity to express their interest in running a Serving Pride activation!
Activations will take place between June and September, with training, resources and funding provided. To get involved, contact [email protected].

Mardi Gras Fair Day

Tennis NSW collaborates with Tennis Sydney & Amazon Women’s Tennis, to host a stall at the annual Mardi Gras Fair Day. This event promotes tennis to the LGBTQ+ community, provides information on inclusive programs and encourages participation from beginner to advanced players.

Tennis Sydney

Tennis Sydney is Australia’s largest LGBTQIA+ tennis club, established in 1985. Tennis Sydney hosts a range of community-focused events throughout the year. Please see below.

Tournaments:

  • Seven tournaments annually, including two sanctioned by the Gay Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) and five club tournaments.

Sunday Social Tennis:

  • Social tennis every Sunday from 12 pm–5 pm for all players.

Mid‑Week Competitions:

  • Multiple competitions catering to varying skill levels.

Amazon Women’s Tennis

Amazon Women’s Tennis is a Sydney‑based tennis club and community organisation that provides a welcoming, safe and supportive environment specifically for LGBTQIA+ women, trans women and gender‑diverse players to enjoy the sport of tennis at all levels.

Whether you’re a complete beginner picking up a racquet for the first time or an experienced player looking for social connection or competitive play, the club offers a variety of opportunities, including social tennis sessions, structured coaching and skill development, league competitions, and tournaments throughout the year.

Glam Slam (Australian Open)

The Glam Slam is an international tennis event sanctioned by the Gay Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) and traditionally held in Melbourne during the Australian Open period. It draws players from around the world and includes community-focused social events alongside competition.
