12 March 2026 | Tennis NSW

Tennis NSW is now inviting its Metropolitan member clubs to submit expressions of interest to host the 2026–2028 NSW Metropolitan Hardcourt Closed Championships.

This premier annual event – which runs for eight consecutive days during the first week of the Term 2 school holidays – offers clubs a unique opportunity to showcase their venue, engage their community, as well as contribute to the ongoing growth of competitive tennis across Metropolitan Sydney.

Around 700 players and spectators are expected at this year’s event, which will see the 05K contested from Friday 3 July to Monday 6 July, followed by the J125 from Tuesday 7 July to Friday 10 July.

Tennis NSW is seeking a host for a three‑year term (2026–2028) and those wishing to submit an EOI are required to address a range of essential and highly desirable criteria, which can be found HERE.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 5:00pm on Sunday 29 March 2026 via the online application link HERE, with the successful applicant expected to be notified early next month.

Tennis NSW is proud to partner with the NSW Hardcourt Tennis Association to deliver the NSW Metropolitan Hardcourt Closed Championships – bringing together the long‑running Sydney Closed and Metropolitan Hardcourt Championships into one unified event.

First contested in 1933, the Metropolitan Hardcourt Championships carries a rich history and has attracted top‑level players from across Australia and abroad. Its honour roll features some of the sport’s most notable figures, including John Bromwich, Lew Hoad, Mal Anderson, Bill Bowrey, Kim Warwick, Craig Miller, Evonne Goolagong and Dianne Fromholtz.

The legacy of excellence extends to its junior singles champions as well, with names such as John Newcombe, John Alexander, Wally Masur and Pat Rafter.
