Alex de Minaur has advanced to his sixth career Grand Slam quarter-final after a commanding performance against qualifier Leandro Riedi at the US Open. In just 93 minutes, the Australian secured a 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Swiss, earning his spot in the final eight.

“I was happy with my level of focus,” de Minaur said. “I knew he had some big shots, and he’s had a great week coming through the qualifiers. I’m super proud of what I’m doing. Ultimately, this is where I want to be—playing for the big titles and being in contention. I am putting myself in the right places. I’ve got another great opportunity coming up in the quarter-finals, and I’m going to go out and have a swing.”

In his third quarter-final at Flushing Meadows, de Minaur will face world No. 27 Felix Auger-Aliassime. The pair have met three times before, with the Canadian leading the head-to-head 2-1. However, as the lowest-ranked quarter-final opponent of his career, this could be de Minaur’s best opportunity to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final.

“I’ve always thought that the first job is to get there and give myself the opportunity,” he said. “If I bum out early, I’m never going to get the chance, so at least I’ve got the chance in front of me. It’s about embracing it. I’ve got some experience, I know what to expect, and the mindset going forward is going to be going for it. There’s no holding back.”
