Day 5 of the NSW Open is complete.

It was perfect conditions on Centre Court this morning, with Astra Sharma (WA)  producing spectacular tennis. Coming back from a set down, Sharma pushed through and defeated Lea Ma (USA) 7-6, 4-6, 3-6. Top seed, Thanasi Kokkinakis (SA), secured his spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Philip Sekulic (QLD) 7-5, 7-5.

Chak Lam Coleman Wong’s dream of earning a second Challenger title in two weeks was ended by NSW Open poster boy, Rinky Hijikata (NSW). After his 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win, Hijikata has also secured a spot in the quarterfinals.

Wildcard, Maya Joint (AUS) has continued her strong form, winning convincingly against Yuki Naito (JPN) 6-4, 6-3.  Joint will now play Jamie Fourlis (QLD) who came back from being behind to beat Chihiro Muramatsu from Japan,  2-6, 6-1, 6-4.

The Aussies are dominating the ladies doubles, with 3 out of the 4 pairs in the semi-finals being from Australia.

First up tomorrow on Centre Court, we have Rinky Hijikata (NSW) against Korean, JiSung Nam.  Nam defeated Dane Sweeny to earn his place in the quarterfinals. Rio Noguchi will have to overcome the crowd and his opponent when he faces Thanasi Kokkinakis (SA) in the second match on Centre Court.
