2 November 2022 | Tennis NSW

Day 4 of the NSW Open has now been completed. Today we were greeted with much cooler weather than the past few days. Gusty winds also made it difficult for players to find rhythm in their matches.

In the Women’s Singles today, Aussies Lizette Cabrera and Alexandra Bozovic had wins in their matches. Both girls played extremely well with Lizette winning 6-2, 7-5 over Destanee Aiava (AUS) while Alexandra came away with a solid win over Priska Madelyn Nugroho (INA) 6-2, 6-3. Unfortunately number 2 seed Maddison Inglis had to retire from her match in the 3rd set against Talia Gibson (AUS). In a fantastic battle, Talia came away with the win 7-6 (7), 3-6 and was 3-0 up in the 3rd before Maddison retired. A win today for Petra Hule (AUS) over fellow Australian  Tina Nadine Smith in another tough 3 set match. Petra recently returning from College in the US and playing really well came away with the win 3-6, 6,2, 6-2.

In the Women’s doubles Kaylah McPhee (AUS) and Alana Parnaby (AUS) beat the number 4 seeds, sisters Haruna and Natsuho Arakawa (JPN) 6-0 6-4. Alexandra Osbourne (AUS) and her partner Jessy Rompies (INA) had a tough fought win over unseeded pair Jessica Failla (USA) and Zuzana Zlochova (SVK) 0-6, 7-5, 10-6.

In the Men’s Singles, Aleksandar Vukic (NSW) went down to fellow Aussie Adam Walton 7-6 (8), 6-1, while Marc Polmans had a win over Yuta Shimizu 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 and then backed it up with a win in the Doubles with his partner Max Purcell (NSW) over Matt Hulme (AUS) and Kody Pearson (NSW) 6-0 6-3. Wins also today in the Men’s doubles for Omar Jasika (AUS) and James McCabe (NSW), Dayne Kelly (AUS) and Rubin Statham (NZL), Blake Ellis (AUS) and Tristan Schoolkate (AUS) and Alex Bolt (AUS) and Rinky Hijikata (NSW).

Tomorrow will see NSW players James McCabe and Max Purcell play first and second respectively on court 2 with both players then involved in doubles later in the day. Number 5 seed Kimberly Birrell will play Alexandra Bozovic second on court 9 before both players then take on each other again in the doubles which will also take place on court 9.
