21 February 2022 | Tennis NSW

Fair Day marks the beginning of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, providing a fantastic place for community groups to connect with the LGBTQIA+ community.

This year Victoria Park will host more than 250 community stalls at the annual all-day festival to be held on Sunday 20 February 2022.

Tennis NSW will be at the Fair Day Sports Village with Tennis Sydney, one of Australia’s largest LGBTQIA+ clubs. First established in 1988, Tennis Sydney provide a range of tennis programs and tournament opportunities, for the LGBTQIA+ community in safe and positive environments.

Last year, more than 80,000 people attended the family-friendly, free event celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.

Tennis NSW CEO Darren Simpson said:

“Tennis is an inclusive and accessible sport, and we want everyone that walks through the door to feel welcome.”

“Tennis Sydney is a great example of an inclusive, safe, and healthy sporting environment for people with diverse sexualities and genders.”

“Tennis NSW is delighted to work with Tennis Sydney at Fair Day, to help raise awareness around opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ sporting community in Sydney.”

Tennis Sydney President Gavin Mears said:

“Tennis Sydney is proud to partner with Tennis NSW to expand the love of tennis to LGBTQIA+ communities, making our great sport a match for all.”

“We look forward to bringing our partnership to life at Fair Day and at future Tennis Sydney events this year and beyond. Thank you Tennis NSW for your continued support to make tennis the most inclusive sport for our community.”

Tennis NSW also partnered with Pride in Sport in June 2021, committing to further develop and enhance the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people, through changing practices and supporting the creation of inclusive spaces at all levels.

The Tennis NSW Strategic Plan Vision 2025 reiterates the plans for Tennis NSW to increase its focus on engagement with and opportunities for the LGBTQIA+ community in NSW as we deliver on our Inclusion and Diversity strategy.
