22 August 2021 | Tennis NSW

Dear NSW tennis community,

Further to the Premier’s announcement on Friday, the current lockdown throughout NSW will remain in place for Greater Sydney until 30 September 2021. The Central Coast and Shellharbour regions will now be classified as Regional NSW and further advice on the restrictions beyond 28 August 2021 will be provided by the NSW Government in due course.

Areas of concern currently remain Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Liverpool, Parramatta, Strathfield and some Penrith suburbs.

New restrictions for all of New South Wales come into effect from 12.01am Monday 23 August 2021.  These new restrictions as relevant for tennis activities include that a person residing in an area of concern must not be away from their place of residence for more than 1 hour per day to exercise.

There is also a curfew in place for areas of concern between 9pm and 5am, and this prevents tennis activities taking place during these times. We urge our community to ensure all tennis operations comply with this new restriction.

Additionally, from 12.01am Saturday 28 August 2021 if you live in an area of Sydney that is not classified as an area of concern and you are employed as a tennis coach, you cannot enter an area of concern for work purposes unless you have a permit issued by Service NSW.

Currently, we do not have any more information about the permit system or whether tennis coaches would be eligible to obtain a permit. We strongly encourage our affected coaches to regularly monitor the Service NSW COVID webpage to obtain updates about how and when permits can be obtained.

REMINDERS FOR ALL OF NSW

  • No form of competitive play should be administered. No venue or club should be offering competitive play in ANY form including social competition, mid-week competition, UTR match-play or any other forms.
  • Tennis should be played for exercise purposes only.
  • Only singles play is permitted subject to gatherings of persons who are all members of the same household.
  • The Public Health Orders states that you cannot coach more than 2 individuals from separate households under the outdoor gatherings provision in the Public Health Order.
  • If you are a tennis coach WITHIN an area of concern, you cannot leave the area of concern to attend your place of work as tennis coach is NOT listed as an Authorised Worker.

The rules for leaving your home and the list of workers authorised to travel outside the local government area they live in if they are required to leave home for work can be found here.

All of New South Wales is affected by the COVID-19 NSW Public Health Order and subsequent restrictions, we are continually assessing all competitive playing options. Continue to check the Tennis NSW website and social media for up-to-date tournament and competition information.

We appreciate that many of our coaching and tennis venue workforce may be affected by these new restrictions. We continue to encourage our tennis community to be mindful of the current Public Health Orders and adhere to the restrictions to keep our community safe with the aim that we can resume to normal as quickly as possible.

We are currently in the process of updating our COVID-19 Tennis FAQs and you will be able to access them on our website here.

Thank you and stay safe.
