After four years leading the Organisation, Tennis NSW have today announced that their Chief Executive Lawrence Robertson, will be stepping down later this year to take up a senior leadership position with Tennis Australia as the Director of Pathways and Game Development.

“It has been an absolute honour and a privilege to lead the sport of tennis in NSW over the past four years”, Robertson said.

“I want to place on record my thanks and appreciation to the Board of Tennis NSW who provided me the opportunity in the first instance and I am incredibly proud of our achievements and successes over the past four years.

Alongside all of the team here at Tennis NSW who have been instrumental in our progress, I’d also like to thank so many of our stakeholders, the Clubs, the Coaches and our Government partners who have embraced our strategic plan and vision and have been critical in us delivering both change and growth in our sport.

I am confident that I move on from my time here with the sport and the Organisation, leaving it in a better place than it was when I started.”

During his time leading the Organisation, Robertson has overseen the $50m upgrade of Ken Rosewall Arena, the successful securing and staging of the inaugural ATP Cup and the final staging of the Sydney International, which saw Alex De Minaur win his maiden ATP title on home soil.

At a grass-roots level, during his tenure, the Organisation has secured increased Government investment into facilities and programming through the ATP Cup Legacy Fund, launched the award-winning Sheroes program and developed and launched the Venue Sustainability Rating tool which is providing data and insights to help our Clubs, Coaches and Councils run more sustainable venues.

Tennis NSW President Melissa Achten, thanked Robertson for his contribution to the sport. “Lawrence has made an outstanding contribution as CEO over the past four years and leaves tennis in a very strong position from grassroots through to hosting the world’s biggest team event, the ATP Cup”, Achten said.

“Over the past 18 months, Lawrence has provided strong leadership through a very intense and challenging period for all sports, as we navigated the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and was a driving force in allowing tennis to continue to operate during this period.

Tennis NSW acknowledges Lawrence on his many significant achievements during his time with us and in particular his work on the development of Ken Rosewall Arena, the area of safeguarding children and all of our work in the women & girls space with our Sheroes program”.

Robertson will remain in his role for the next 12 weeks and will assist the Board and Management to ensure a smooth transition for the new CEO. The Board will shortly start the recruitment process for the role and further details will be made available shortly.
