20 April 2021 | Tennis NSW

Tennis NSW is deeply saddened by the passing of former CEO & Sydney International Tournament Director, Craig Watson.

Craig passed away on Sunday afternoon following a battle with melanoma.

Craig Watson was a significant figure in NSW tennis for many years. Craig served as CEO for nine years and was a key staff member of Tennis NSW for over 25 years before then. Craig played a pivotal part in the sale of White City and the relocation of Tennis NSW to Sydney Olympic Park. In his capacity as Tournament Director, Craig was also key in the long-term growth and success of the Sydney International, a role he held up to 2013.

Craig was a committed supporter to the grassroots of our sport, held great relationships with many Associations, Clubs and the volunteer base whilst further raising the profile of the Sydney International throughout his tenure.  His leadership through an incredible time of change for the sport cemented the strong future direction of Tennis NSW. Craig was a dedicated and supportive leader to his team, and was highly respected by all.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Craig’s family.

He is survived by his loving wife Anna and children Miles and Mathias.

Craig’s funeral will be held on Thursday 22nd April at 2:30pm.
