Just days after Ash Barty’s historic win at Roland Garros, Australia’s Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik made a special visit to Sydney to inspire the next generation.

The annual ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year competition recognises eight young tennis stars from around Australia for their participation, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and enjoyment of the game. Molik to to the court with 10 year old Felix Sanford, winner of the 2018 ANZ Hot Shot of the year, giving Felix and two friends a private lesson putting the youngsters through their paces at Eastcourts Tennis Club in Randwick.

“Meeting the winner of the year and having the chance to get out on court and share my love for the sport is always one of the highlights of my year” Alicia Molik said.

After an intense session on court, Felix was presented with $5,000 and one year of free tennis coaching!

The Hot Shots program is designed specifically to introduce primary school students to tennis. With smaller courts, racquets and low compression balls it makes it easier for young kids to rally and play the sport from a young age. Molik also made a visit to Mt St Thomas Public School where she spoke about her Tennis career and handed out racquets to the very lucky kindergarten students! 30,000 students across 500 schools will receive new tennis racquets, thanks to ANZ. Now in its third year, the Roadshow has successfully encouraged kids to get involved in the sport.
