Exciting teenager Alex De Minaur is through to the boys’ final at the All England Club after thrashing American second seed Ulises Blanch 6-3 6-2 on Friday.

The victory comes a day after dumping Roland Garros junior finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime from the tournament.

The Sydney-born, Spain-based all-courter had already reached the semifinals at the 2015 US Open and Australian Open 2016, and took a step further on Friday.

Sunday will be De Minaur’s first Grand Slam singles final.

“It’s good to finally get over that semifinal barrier,” the 17-year-old said. “I’m just enjoying every second of it.”

De Minaur is bidding to become the first Australian to win the junior singles at the All England Club since Luke Saville and Ashleigh Barty completed the double in 2011.

The last Aussie to reach a Wimbledon junior decider was Saville, who returned to the final in 2012 before falling to Felip Peliwo.

De Minaur will face No.5 seed Denis Shapovalov in the final, after the Canadian beat top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets.

It was a very different victory to De Minaur’s; the Aussie clubbed Blanch in just 49 minutes, serving eight aces and smacking 18 winners.

“I think it helped that I didn’t put any pressure on myself. I just came out on court just wanting to play my game and just be on top of it. Don’t worry about score, my opponent, the court, or anything. I just got there, did my job, so I’m pretty happy about it,” de Minaur said.

“I think the other semifinals I’ve played I’ve put a little bit of pressure on myself, thinking ‘I’m in the semis’, two more matches away I get the Grand Slam. But I just came out as if it was another first round match and it went well.”

De Minaur plans to have a hit on an otherwise light day on Saturday ahead of the biggest match of his burgeoning career.

“I was watching (the other semifinal) on the TV,” he said.

“I’ve never played Denis so it will be a good match-up and looking forward to playing on Sunday.”
