Ryder Donald, 8, from Henley South, SA (pictured with Michael Humphries, ANZ Branch Manager – West Lakes) will join the world’s biggest tennis stars at Australian Open 2018 after being selected as an ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year nominee.

The ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year competition recognises and rewards a budding participant each month who best demonstrates the spirit of tennis through their participation, enthusiasm and enjoyment of the game.

Ryder will receive a money-can’t-buy VIP trip to the Australian Open as well as an ANZ Tennis Hot Shots equipment pack, including a mini net, racquets and balls.

The Fulham North Primary school student is current playing ANZ Tennis Hot Shots at Henley South Tennis Club under coach David Grainger and is looking forward to attending the first Grand Slam of the year and having the opportunity to watch some of his favourite players during the tournament.

“I’m so excited about going to the Australian Open as I get to play tennis on the big arena and watch the tennis stars play in real life” said Ryder.

“My favourite tennis players are Novak Djokovic and I like Lleyton Hewitt because he is from Adelaide.”

In January 2018, Ryder will join seven other nominees at Melbourne Park where the ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year will be selected at an official awards ceremony, as well as go behind-the-scenes at the tournament and play on the same courts as the world’s best.

The ANZ Tennis Hot Shot of the Year winner will receive $5,000, a year’s worth of free coaching and a tennis lesson with ANZ Tennis Hot Shots ambassador Alicia Molik and three friends at their tennis club.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is Tennis Australia’s official development program specifically designed for primary school-aged children between five to 12 years of age. ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is one of Australia’s most popular junior sports participation programs.
