The South Australian National Academy has delivered outstanding results at the Australian Grass court Championships held at the Mildura Lawn Tennis Club from 19-24 February 2013.

Nicole Kraemer (Hallet Cove, SA) has become the first South Australian to win 14 & U Girls Singles at the Australian Grass court Championships defeating Gabrielle O’Gorman (6), NSW, 2-6 6-2 6-4 .

In the 14 & U Girls Doubles Nicole continued her winning streak pairing with fellow South Australian Petra Hule (Flagstaff Hill, SA) defeating Monique Belovukovic, NSW, and Sasha Bollweg (2), VIC, 6-1 7-5 .

Rohan Fisher, National Academy Manager cited Nicole’s success to her solid preparation.

“Nicole’s preparation leading into the Nationals was ideal with three ITF events in New Zealand and Traralgon Tennis International.  The recent win sets her up well for upcoming international travel in USA.”

On the boys side, Sam May (Colonel Light Gardens, SA) had his most successful Nationals to date finishing runner-up in the boys 12/U singles event to Rinki Hijikata of NSW 6/2, 7/5.

May, who defeated fellow South Australian and top seed Stefan Norodom (Kidman Park, SA) in the semi-final played great grass court tennis throughout the week to defy his eighth seeding.

Stefan Norodom bounced back after his semi-final defeat to claim the 12/U boys doubles title with partner Connor Di Marco of Victoria.

Tahlia Van Der Eerden (Greenwith, SA) had her best week in a National tournament by finishing 3rd in the 12/U singles and runner-up in the 12/U doubles with fellow South Australian Amber Marshall (Gulfview Heights, SA).

Fisher continues “These results were beyond the expectations of the National Academy and we congratulate all players on their recent efforts.”

Daniel Hobart (Port Pirie, SA) trained by Adelaide Hills Coach Nick Hall was runner-up in the 14 & U Boys Singles finals losing to Alex De Minaur (1), NSW, 3-6 6-3 6-1.

The next Australian Championships for the 12s and 14s will be the National Claycourt Championships to be held at the George Alder Tennis Centre in Ipswich, Queensland in April.
