25 November 2020 | Tennis SA

6.30 pm update: This evening, we have been advised by SAPOL that the subject of tennis coaching will be reviewed by SAPOL and SA Health on Thursday 26 November. We will provide updates as they become available.

Thank you to the members of our tennis community who have made us aware of their communications with SAPOL in recent days.

Following extensive discussions with SAPOL and SA Health, we received written communication from the Deputy Chief Public Health Officer (SA Health) saying as follows:

“We are not in a position to provide an exemption for community tennis coaching. While I acknowledge the concerns and the impact, the Direction explicitly identifies indoor or outdoor community sports fixtures and trainings as a restricted public activity, which includes tennis coaching.”

This morning, we have asked that this be revisited as a matter of urgency to ensure absolute clarity and consistency for all involved.

This is a very difficult time for everyone and as a tennis community, we all need to work together to ensure we get the best outcomes. Tennis SA has worked tirelessly with authorities since these restrictions were implemented last week, with our goal being to ensure that coaches (and players) could return to tennis courts around the state as soon as possible.

We understand the frustration due to the mixed messages and we hope to provide more clarity soon.
