The semifinalists have been confirmed and the hopes of the final two South Australians have been dashed on Day 5 of the City of Playford Tennis International II.

In the men’s draw, the top two seeds made it through with relative ease. Yasutaka Uchiyama (JPN) lost the first set 4-6 and was 3-1 up in the second before Andrew Harris (Vic) was forced to retire. Second seed James Duckworth (NSW) won his match against Jay Clarke (GBR) in straight sets 6-3 6-3, Luke Saville (SA) was defeated by [4] Marc Polmans (Vic) 3-6 6-1 6-0 and Alex Bolt (SA) was overcome by [3] Tatsuma Ito (JPN) 7-5 6-4.

In the women’s, Storm Sanders (WA) continued her singles comeback with a 6-3 7-5 victory over eighth seed Naiktha Bains (GBR), Chihiro Muramatsu (JPN) defeated Jennifer Elie (USA) 6-3 6-2 and third seed Lizette Cabrera (Qld) defeated [5] Asia Muhammad 7-6(4) 6-0. In the marathon match of the day, second seed Maddison Inglis (WA) defeated Belinda Woolcock (Vic) in two hours and 53 minutes, 6-7(5) 6-3 6-3.

Tomorrow is singles semifinal day, with matches starting at 11.00 am. The day will also feature the women’s doubles final between top seeds Asia Muhammad (USA)/Storm Sanders (WA) and third seeds Naiktha Bains (GBR)/Tereza Mihalikova (SVK).
