The City of Playford Tennis International will return to close the Australian Pro Tour calendar for 2019.

Tennis SA and Tennis Australia, in conjunction with the City of Playford, TennisGear and Playford Tennis Club, will host the Australian Pro Tour event from Monday 28 October 2019 to Sunday 3 November 2019.

In a coup for the event, the Women’s ITF World Tennis Tour component has been increased to USD$60,000 prizemoney for the first time in the event’s history, to sit alongside the Men’s Challenger tournament taking the total prizemoney pool to over AUD$160,000.

The event has in the past attracted the likes of current world No.13 Daniil Medvedev (RUS), former world No.2 Vera Zvonareva (RUS) and South Australia’s very own world No.135 Alex Bolt.

“We are delighted to host another City of Playford Tennis International at the Playford City Tennis Centre in 2019, a superb venue which the players really enjoy competing at,” said Tennis Australia’s Head of Tournaments and Officiating, Isabelle Gemmel.

City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty says the tournament in the heart of Playford’s Sports Precinct is one of the highlights of the city’s sporting calendar.

“Our Council is excited to be hosting the third City of Playford Tennis International, late in 2019.”

“The feedback we received from players, business, tourism operators and attendees was fantastic and local shops enjoyed increased trade and foot traffic during the top-quality sporting event.”

“Tennis SA is thrilled to confirm that the City of Playford Tennis International will return again in 2019,” said Tennis SA CEO Steven Baldas.

“A sincere thank you goes to the City of Playford, TennisGear and Playford Tennis Club for their unwavering support of this tournament. This event continues to go from strength-to-strength and we are excited to see the tournament grow again later this year.”

The field for the City of Playford Tennis International will be announced in October 2019.
