On the weekend the Junior State League Semi-Finals were completed. Unfortunately the finals series went from a three week finals series to a two week knockout, due to the heat during the first week of finals.

In the Statewide Super girls competition, top of the table Seacliff hosted Hahndorf in a one sided affair, with Seacliff showing why they have been the strongest team all year. Seacliff were convincing in both the singles and doubles not dropping a rubber lead by Jasmine Adams and Cydney Crumbie up the top.

Seacliff will now play Pembroke in the Grand Final, which looks to be a very close affair with Pembroke coming up on top last time they met.

Pembroke were without Amber Marshall, but that didn’t stop them booking themselves into a grand final with a convincing win, not dropping a rubber against Seaside. Seaside were unfortunately without their star Tully Richter due to injury, which made it a tough ask leading into the knockout Semi-Final.

This has set up a block buster Grand Final between the two best sides all season this Friday at Memorial Drive.

In the boys competition, it was a much closer affair with top of the ladder Seacliff hosting Pembroke who finished fourth. Seacliff’s number 4 Alexander Despoja and number 3 Lachlan Brain got their team off to a strong start winning both those singles 9-4 and 9-2 respectively.

Pembroke’s Terry Karahalios bounced back for his team with a close 9-7 win over Seacliff’s Doni Gashi to keep his team’s chances alive. This was then followed by Seacliff’s Noah Koeroessy winning a crucial top singles over Pembroke’s Benjamin Cahill to give his side a three rubbers to one lead heading into the doubles.

In the doubles, Seacliff’s Noah Koeroessy and Alexander Despoja paired up in the top doubles against Benjamin Cahill and Antonio Kristo winning a close 6-3 doubles and sealing their spot into the Grand Final. The Seacliff Tennis Club would be wrapped to have both their boys and girls team reach the Grand Final and give their club an opportunity to create history and win both in the same season.

In the match of the round, Coromandel Valley hosted Trinity Gardens, which saw the match come down to games. Coromandel Valley were hoping to keep their amazing run from the last two season in finals going, winning back to back premierships. Whilst Trinity were looking to create an upset and book their spot in a Junior State League Grand Final again.

In the singles, Trinity’s Henry Lamchinniah had a convincing 9-2 win in the fourth singles over Brodie Johns but Coromandel Valley bounced back in third singles taking that 9-3 to keep it at one set a piece. Young guns Edward Winter from Coromandel Valley and Callum Gale from Trinity Gardens had strong wins to set up a block buster doubles with the match tied at two rubbers a piece and Trinity leading by only two games.

In the doubles, Coromandel Valley had a huge 6-0 win in the second doubles to put their side in a strong position but Trinity bounced back in the top doubles taking it out 6-1. The final score was 3 rubbers all, 28 games to 29 games, giving Trinity a one game victory to book their spot in the Grand Final.

All are welcome to attend and spectate, particularly for the Junior Awards Presentation, which will occur prior to the Grand Final matches at 6.15pm.
