The Junior State League is tightening up with only two rounds remaining after Round 12 was played over the weekend.

Pembroke (4th) won an important match over Glenlea (5th), which has edged them further in front to hopefully secure a finals chance. In the singles Pembroke managed to take out three out of the four rubbers and give their team a strong start, lead by Antonio Kristo in the top singles.

Glenlea’s Eamonn Moore won a close tiebreak in the fourth singles over Pembroke’s Harvey Doney to get his team on the board. Pembroke’s Noah Coghlan and Harvey Doney closed the match in the second doubles with a 6-2 win, which gave their team a four rubbers to two overall victory.

Top side Seacliff hosted Tea Tree Gully, with Tea Tree Gully’s Connor Wallin getting his side off to an ideal start with a 9-7 win over Noah Koeroessy. Seacliff bounced back winning the remaining three single rubbers with solid wins from Lachlan Brain and Alexander Despoja.

Tea Tree Gully’s Connor Wallin and Nathan Catalano were too good for Seacliff’s Lachlan Brain and Doni Gashi taking out the top doubles 6-4. Seacliff then came back in the second doubles with a convincing 6-0 win to secure the match four rubbers to two and seal top spot.

Both Coromandel Valley (2nd) and Trinity Titans (3rd) had resounding six rubbers to zero wins and the top three is close to locked away. Both number one’s were firing with Patrick Douglas winning 9-4 and Callum Gale winning 9-0, both will be key players leading into finals.

In the Statewide Super girls’ competition, Seaside kept their impressive season going with a four rubbers to two win over Hahndorf. The Schwarz sisters Chloe and Madison were dominant at number one and two winning 9-1 and 9-0 respectively. Hahndorf’s Jenna Barry and Anna Stewart kept the match competitive with a 6-0 win in the doubles and also taking out the fourth singles in a tiebreak.

Peake Gardens welcomed back Mia Tsoukalas this week against Collingrove and she came back with a strong 9-1 victory over Kate Brozstek. Peake Gardens number two Georgia Plunkett also followed with a win. Collingroves number three and four, Taegan White and Emily Glavas bounced back for their team with a 9-1 and 9-7 win respectively to tie it up two rubbers a piece. In the doubles Peake Gardens were dominant taking out the top doubles 6-0 and the second doubles 6-1, giving their side a four rubbers to two victory.

The Seacliff girls once again had a very strong 6 rubbers to zero win and in doing so sealed top spot. Both the boys and the girls now have locked away the top of the ladder and have put their club in a great position going into finals to have a run at the premiership in a few weeks.
