Tennis SA sends condolences to the family and friends of Ian Tiez, who passed away last week.

Ian was well known in the tennis community, and when Tennis SA Board Member and Life Member, Neville Guthberlet was Secretary of the Summertown Tennis Club, he remembers appointing Ian as the Club’s first coach in the 70’s.

He started out playing tennis and then took up coaching, which he did for 53 years.

Ian was made a Life Member of both the Campbelltown Tennis Club and Eastern Districts Tennis Association.

He was the Association Coach, the MacDonald Coach along with coaching at Wilderness, Handicap children, and coached at several clubs (Newton-Rostrevor- HSC.)

Ian was nominated for the Campbelltown Citizen of the Year Award, this was read out by his Son-in-law at his funeral as one of his greatest achievements.

Pat Semmens, Tennis SA Life Member, described Ian as” one of the old school, tough, but underneath a great guy”.

Rest in Peace.
